Connecticut Chamber Choir

Shining in the Night

“Shining in the Night,” though planned many months ago, promises to be especially meaningful in light of the recent tragic events at Sandy Hook. Conceived around the theme of light in the midst of darkness, it now also speaks eloquently of hope in the face of tragedy. The texts are drawn from sources scattered in time and place: ancient Sanskrit and early American hymns, German Romantic and fin de siècle French poetry, 20th century American, British, and Bengali poetry, and words from the Book of Common Prayer. Composers and musical styles are equally varied with timeless settings by Brahms, Holst, Debussy, Barber, and three living composers, Craig Hella Johnson and Connecticut residents, Andrew Gordon and Jeffrey Douma. The Connecticut Chamber Choir extends a sincere invitation to our communities to join us for a concert dedicated to hope and healing.
