Letter from Italy, 1944
A contemporary oratorio - the story of a Connecticut soldier in World War II and how these events affected his life and that of his family
The Greater Middletown Chorale will perform the world premiere of "Letter From Italy, 1944" -- a dramatic performance conducted by Joseph D'Eugenio with 65 voices and a full orchestra. The production, featuring opera singer Patricia Schuman (Delia), Jack Anthony Pott (John), and three additional professional soloists, is about love, a man who went to war, and the impact of post-traumatic stress on families. It was created by Connecticut’s Meneely sisters--a Grammy-nominated composer and a published poet, to honor their father. The powerful and moving story (directed and staged by Sheila Garvey) is based on Dr. John Meneely’s letters home to his family when he was in the 10th Mountain Division during World War II.
