Fairfield County Chorale
A September Sing - Mozart Requiem
The Fairfield County Chorale will present A SEPTEMBER SING featuring Mozart’s Requiem at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport. The audience is the choir at this event.
On Sunday September 7, 2014 at 4PM The Fairfield County Chorale will kick off its 52nd season with A SEPTEMBER SING featuring Mozart’s Requiem at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport. In this event Mozart’s Requiem will be rehearsed and then sung under the baton of David Rosenmeyer, Music Director of The Fairfield County Chorale. Maestro Rosenmeyer, in addition to leading the singing, will also offer interesting insights into the history of the composer and the work.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's unfinished Requiem has long been shrouded in mystery. Mozart undertook the commission for an Austrian nobleman. The secrecy surrounding the anonymous commission, the circumstances of Mozart's death, the unfinished state of the work, and its completion in 1792, have precipitated two centuries of speculation. Requiem opens with Introitus, which combines Mozart’s hopelessness and passion and concludes with Lacrimosa, a movement characterized by haunting strings and vocal lines that ends in a dazzling crescendo “Amen.” Throughout this distinctive work, containing the last notes Mozart ever wrote, is an unusual mix that is part church style, part Masonic funeral music and part opera. Here we get a glimpse of a great musical genius in his last tortured days, a man convinced he was writing the Requiem for his own death. And so he was.
It is open to accomplished singers, people who enjoy singing and anyone who might like to try. Absolutely no experience is necessary. Anyone wishing to listen is also welcome.
A SEPTEMBER SING offers a preview of our 2014 2015 Season which will include Mozart Requiem on May 9, 2015, as well as Handel Messiah on December 14, 2014 and Beethoven Symphony No. 9 on March 28, 2015.
Venue: The Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport is at 651 Pequot Avenue, Southport, CT 06890. The Church is 2 blocks south of I-95 at Exit 19.
Tickets: Admission is $10 at the door, music rental is included. A reception will follow the event.
