CONCORA: Connecticut Choral Artists

The Dream Concert

CONCORA in concert with Dr. Steven Sametz

The concert features a new composition, “Un Bacio (A Kiss),” the first CONCORA commission supported by the newly-formed Richard M. Coffey Fund for the Advancement of the Choral Arts, in recognition of, and in honor of, Richard Coffey, CONCORA's founder and Artistic Director Emeritus.

Dr. Sametz describes his commission, which is dedicated to Maestro Richard Coffey, as based on a Renaissance text that is a word play on "'bacio," the Italian word for kiss. He offers it as a Valentine's Day present to CONCORA and our audience.

The concert will also feature several other choral works by Dr. Sametz, as well as the world-premiere of his organ solo, "Tenebrae factae sunt (There was darkness)," performed by Dan Campolieta, and choral works by Ysaye Barnwell, Stephen Leek, Steven Stucky and Eric Whitacre.

Dr. Sametz is Director of Choral Studies at Lehigh University and Music Director of the Princeton Singers. He is the recent recipient of the University of Connecticut’s Raymond and Beverly Sackler Music Composition Prize; his new work, A Child’s Requiem, will be premiered in Storrs in March.

Silk City Chorus

Singing Valentines

A Gift for that Someone Special

t’s coming up on that time of year again. Will it be flowers, chocolate or something really different this year that your loved one will never forget?
You can move your special person to tears with a unique gift of song. Surprise her or him by sending an experienced tuxedo-clad Barbershop Quartet to personally deliver two love songs sung in magnificent 4-part harmony, along with a card from you, a fresh rose, and a photo of the quartet singing to your loved one.
On Friday, February 13 , anytime from 9AM to 8PM, quartets from the award-winning Silk City Chorus will be delivering “Singing Valentines” throughout the greater Hartford area. For only $50, a talented men’s barbershop quartet dressed in tuxedos with red décor, will perform two love songs and deliver a fresh red rose, a Valentines card, plus a personalized photo of the quartet with your loved one, anywhere that you request.
We perform valentines at offices, restaurants, private homes, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and schools--singing to spouses, fellow workers, as well as parents, relatives, children and neighbors. We even deliver them to bosses!
