Puccini and Saint-Saens featured at Dec. 2 concert

Bring in the spirit of the holiday season by attending Cappella Cantorum’s Christmas Concert Sunday, Dec. 2, 3 p.m. at John Winthrop Middle School, 1 Winthrop Road, Deep River. Cappella’s Masterworks Chorus will perform Puccini’s “Messa Di Gloria” and Saint-Saens’ “Christmas Oratorio,” two glorious works from the late 1800s. Featured soloists will be soprano Abigail Paschke, tenor Brian Cheney and baritone Paul Fletcher. Simon Holt will direct the chorus and professional orchestra. Fairfield County Chorale

The Fairfield County Chorale Presents Palmeri’s MisaTango plus Holiday Music from Unexpected Sources

Palmeri’s MisaTango plus Holiday Music from Unexpected Sources

Join the Fairfield County Chorale for a special concert of holiday music from around the world. This not-to-be-missed program runs the gamut — from the high-energy tango rhythms of Argentinian composer Martín Palmeri’s Misa a Buenos Aires to Gabriel Fauré’s stirring Cantique de Jean Racine, plus celebrated tango composer Astor Piazzolla’s stunning Ave Maria.
“Misa a Buenos Aires (also known as ‘MisaTango’) combines the unique rhythms, harmonies and beguiling melodies of Argentinian Tango with the traditional liturgical text of the Catholic Mass,” says Fairfield County Chorale music director, David Rosemeyer.
The “Misa Tango” concert will feature a renowned roster of South American soloists, including mezzo-soprano Malena Dayen, as well as two 2018 Latin Grammy Award winners, Rodolfo Zanetti on bandoneón and Pedro Giraudo on bass. Rounding out the exciting program, the FCC welcomes guest conductor Eduardo Notrica, allowing Maestro Rosenmeyer to trade his usual conductor’s baton for the piano keys.
This seasonal concert will also include a selection of carols and other holiday-themed music from unexepected sources, including new arrangements to complement the chorale’s 100+ voices and hand-picked orchestra musicians. The holiday celebration will end with the audience joining in for a peaceful, a capella rendition of Silent Night, in what has become a Fairfield County holiday tradition. “It is such a moving experience for everyone in the concert hall to join in song. It’s the perfect sendoff for a holiday concert,” said Rosenmeyer.

Venue: Sunday, December 16th, 3pm
Norwalk Concert Hall
125 East Ave
Norwalk, CT

Tickets: Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. $5 for students.
