West Hartford Women's Chorale

Holidays In Rhythm

A Winter Concert of traditional holiday music with a twist of rhythm and jazz.

On Friday, December 13, the West Hartford Women’s Chorale will perform their Winter Concert, Holidays in Rhythm, where they will transform traditional holiday music into jazz and other surprising rhythms. The concert held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Hartford, presents traditional pieces such as Franz Joseph Hayden’s Gloria, performed in classical treatment, as well as others that are transformed by arrangements in a variety of rhythms including jazz, syncopation and other unusual patterns.
The centerpiece of the program features the “Nidardos Jazz Mass” written and arranged by Bob Chilcott, a contemporary British choral composer and conductor. This piece draws on a variety of jazz styles to present an unusual and innovative setting of the Latin Mass. The audience will also hear traditional spirituals, and other holiday favorites like “Jingle Bells” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”, but with a special rhythmic twist.
The concert begins at 7:30 pm. Admission is $10. Proceeds will be used to help support the chorale’s musical endeavors as well as a scholarship program to promote future musicians.
