Choral Music of Anton Bruckner: Mass No. 2 in E Minor and Other Gems

“Unexpectedly ethereal and luminous”

The Austrian composer Anton Bruckner may be best-known for his symphonies, eleven immense orchestral works that are vast in scale and dimension. But in his “day job” as an organist and choirmaster, he composed a wealth of exquisite sacred music for his choirs at Sankt Florian monastery and the cathedral at Linz. His ethereal Mass No. 2 in E minor, composed in 1866 to celebrate a new chapel in the Linz cathedral, is scored for eight-voice mixed choir and a small group of wind instruments. This Mass, widely acknowledged as among Bruckner’s best works, evokes the cathedral-esque musical architecture of the Renaissance masters overlaid with the rich harmonies of the nineteenth century. The program also includes a selection of motets by Bruckner.

MIDDLESEX HOSPITAL VOCAL CHORDS presents "A Musical Celebration"

An extraordinary musical experience that will be sure to brighten your heart and light up your memory of some of your favorite hits from the past five decades.

"A MUSICAL CELEBRATION" will be performed by the Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords on Saturday, May 11th at 7pm. Come join us at Portland High School for an extraordinary musical experience that will be sure to brighten your heart and light up your memory of some of your favorite hits from the last five decades.

Fifteen great songs from the pen of Lennon-McCartney combine to feature a medley extravaganza that hints at the influence the BEATLES have had world-wide over our contemporary music scene. Pieces from "Aladdin", "Chicago", "Pocahontas", "Shrek" and "Frozen" are sure to please our younger concert goers. Music from Irving Berlin, Neil Sedaka and John Fogerty will round out the program.
