Alchemy in Concert

Alchemy, the vocal chamber ensemble of the GMChorale, presents a concert of choral music featuring the Neue Liebeslieder Waltzes of Brahms.

Alchemy is a company of 24 musicians that includes music educators, professional soloists and performers, and skilled ensemble singers and instrumentalists. The ensemble performs an annual series of concerts across Connecticut, often collaborating with choirs from the communities in which it performs, especially with youth choirs. No tickets are required for these concerts by Alchemy; free will donations will be accepted.

Farmington Valley Chorale

Durufle Requiem

Durufle, Faure and French songs

The 110-member Farmington Valley Chorale and Artistic Director Dr. Ellen Gilson Voth will present a program of music by French composers on June 8 and 9 in Simsbury, CT. The concert features Maurice Durufle’s Requiem, with organist Dr. Sean Redrow and baritone Greg Flower. The Requiem, built upon Gregorian chant melodies, is widely regarded as Durufle’s greatest work.

The program includes a young Gabriel Faure’s acclaimed Cantique de Jean Racine. Mr. Flower will also perform several French art songs, accompanied by Dr. Ellen Gilson Voth on piano.
The performances will be at Westminster School Chapel, 995 Hopmeadow St, Simsbury, CT on Saturday, June 8, at 7:30 pm and Sunday, June 9, at 4:00 pm. Donation is $20, free for full-time students. For tickets and more information, visit farmingtonvalleychorale.org.

GNHCC Spring Concert: Sing On!

Celebrating 55 Years of Music Making

Greater New Haven Community Chorus continues to celebrate its 55th Anniversary season with its spring concert, Sing On! The concert will feature the world-premiere of The Beauty You Have Begotten with saxophone quartet, by Connecticut-based composer, Jessica Rudman, and works by Arnesen, Hogan, Narverud, Rheinberger, and more. Artistic Director Noah Blocker-Glynn will conduct, with Barbara Robbins as the piano accompanist.

Venue: Doors open at 7pm; concert begins at 7:30.

Cappella Cantorum

Capplla Cantorum Vocal Camp

Improve your singing with Simon Holt and Paul Laurence Fletcher.

The valley-shore chorus of Cappella Cantorum offers a One-Day Vocal Camp on Saturday, June 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, 5 Lyme St., Old Lyme. All singers ages 13 and up are welcome to attend. The camp offers intensive choral practice in group and private lessons that will improve sight reading, ear training and blending in a choral environment.
Learn from accomplished choral leaders Simon Holt, director of the Salt Marsh Opera, Cappella Cantorum and the choir of the Congregational Church of Old Lyme, and Paul Laurence Fletcher, critically acclaimed oratorio and concert soloist.
Lunch will be provided. Cost is $45 for the group session and $55 for the group session plus a private vocal lesson with Mr. Fletcher. The private lessons are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
