Bristol Choral Society

Ken Ferris, Director
Sally Kish, Accompanist
Jane Abbott, Assistant Accompanist
James Doucette, President

The Bristol Choral Society was established in 1975. The Society is a 135-140 ensemble of talented community individuals who share their love of music in various community venues and as performing arts ambassadors in other countries. An important goal of the Bristol Choral Society is to present excellent performances of significant works and to enrich the social and cultural lives of its members and community. Uniquely, our programs are varied and all include classical and contemporary pieces. These balanced programs also include Broadway pieces, spirituals and folk pieces. All works are performed with original orchestrations, language and intent. Community performances are accompanied either by professional orchestra, chamber orchestra, Wind ensemble or the Bristol Reunion Jazz Band. We provide opportunities for youth to further their experience in music either through performance or financial scholarships. Because our concerts are always a sell-out, we share our joy of music by presenting all our concerts on Nutmeg TV for the communities surrounding Bristol. Additional information about our organization can be found on our website.

Constance Chase, Director
Jeffrey Wood, Accompanist

Connecticut Chamber Choir is a select local choir based in Trumbull, Connecticut which performs a wide range of classical and contemporary choral works. Its current membership comes from Fairfield and New Haven counties, and concerts are usually held in Trumbull.

We had a change in the directorship of CCC at the end of the 2007/2008 season, and bade a fond farewell to our founder Richard Erickson who has led the choir for the last 30 years. Mr. Erickson has taken a very well deserved retirement and we all wish him well and thank him for for his great efforts and support of CCC over the many years he was involved with it.

The choir will continue with its popular concerts and we are very pleased to welcome Constance Chase as our new director. Ms. Chase has been involved is many aspects in choral work and brings with her significant experience and talent to CCC.

Greater Middletown Chorale

Joseph D'Eugenio, Artistic Director
Allan Conway, Accompanist

Seventy-five singers from over 22 towns in Middlesex, New Haven and Hartford Counties perform the great choral literature of western classical music under the direction of Joseph D'Eugenio, Artistic Director and Conductor. The Greater Middletown Chorale is an auditioned community chorus and often performs with professional orchestra and soloists. The chorale board employs vocal coaches in each voice part to perfect the ensemble sound and has a strong board structure to administer a busy season. The repertoire is varied and has been a delight to audiences of all ages.

Commissioned choral works have become an important part of the Chorale's repertoire over the past several seasons. Lee McQuillan, Ellen Gilson Voth, Colin Britt, and Sarah Meneely-Kyder are just a few of the notable composers whose works have seen their first performance by the Chorale.

The Greater Middletown Chorale presented a "staged dramatic" production of Mendelssohn's "Elijah" in 2010 at the MHS Performing Arts Center in Middletown. Along with the forces of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus and the First Cong. Church of Cheshire Choir, 200 voices and large orchestra were combined for this work.

Over the last few years, the chorale has enjoyed joint ventures with the Coginchaug High School Chorus, The Naugatuck Valley Community College Chorus and the Wesleyan Singers.

New members are always welcome during the first couple rehearsals for each concert. Details of rehearsals and other information are located on our website.

Greater New Haven Community Chorus

Noah Glynn, Artistic Director

The Greater New Haven Community Chorus, a New Haven arts organization, was founded in 1963 by radio station WELI as a venture in community singing. The WELI Community Chorus, as we were originally known, performed in many surroundings. The chorus became self-supporting in 1971 as the New Haven Community Chorus, and in 1975 became incorporated with the State of Connecticut as a nonprofit organization. Today we are also fortunate to be affiliated with the historic Center Church on the Green.

We begin rehearsals in September for our winter/holiday concert, which is in December, and begin our spring season in January and perform usually in early June. Our repertoire is wide. We often do classical pieces in the fall, and spring concerts vary. All singers are invited to our lively rehearsals as guests throughout the season. The chorus has about 75-80 singers, from many towns in Connecticut, of many ages, and diverse musical backgrounds. After singing as a guest for three rehearsals, singers are able to join. Dues are $35.00 per season.

New Britain Chorale

Adrian Mackiewicz, Artistic Director

The New Britain Chorale is a community choir under the auspices of NEWBRACC (New Britain Area Council of Churches). We have been in existence for over twenty years. We are a faith-based choral group that is open to those who wish to sing sacred music. No church affiliation, however, is needed to become a member or sing with us. We offer one concert each year free to the public. That concert is generally in March or April, with rehearsals beginning in early January. Some sectional rehearsal time is provided. For our concert, we wear choir robes from the various churches represented by our members. Robes are supplied for those not affiliated with a church choir. Each December, a group of members sing in a Christmas concert at Central Connecticut State University. Other singing opportunities are also available but vary each year.

Members are expected to pay for their music (usually $10-$15) and there is a $45 membership fee. (There is a price break for the second singer when two singers come from the same family.) We take a break during our rehearsal time for refreshment and social interaction. We value our time together, not only as singers but as friends.

New Haven Oratorio Choir

Daniel Shaw, Music Director

The New Haven Oratorio Choir (NHOC), a select ensemble of approximately thirty singers, performs sacred choral music from the Renaissance through today focusing on the Baroque, Classical, and early Romantic periods. The ensemble presents choral masterworks by major figures, such as J.S. Bach, Haydn, Mozart, and Schubert, as well as worthy pieces by more obscure composers, such as Jan Dismas Zelenka and Flor Peeters. NHOC also commissions new works by rising contemporary composers.

Under the artistic leadership of Daniel Shaw, NHOC gives special attention to authentic style and performance practice. NHOC presents this distinctive repertoire in a way that allows performers and audiences alike to experience the music according to the stylistic intentions and expectations of the composers. In rehearsal and in concert, NHOC invites participants into the musical world of another time.

NHOC presents at least two concerts per year, one in the fall and another in the spring. The ensemble may also perform at special events and festivals, such as the Music Mountain Summer Music Festival, which takes place each summer in Falls Village, Connecticut.

Ehren Brown, Artistic Director

The Vernon Chorale, under the direction of Artistic Director Ehren Brown, is a choir based in Vernon, Connecticut, with the mission of providing the highest quality choral music to the Greater Hartford area.

The Vernon Chorale presents high-quality choral concerts three times a year, drawing its members from Greater Hartford's community of trained musicians. Our programming covers a broad range of choral music from composers of the Renaissance to newly commissioned works. Recently performed works include Vivaldi's Gloria, Susa's Carols and Lullabies, Mozart's Spatzenmesse, K.220, Martin's Mass for Double Choir, and Howells' Requiem. In October 2008, the ensemble performed at the fall conference of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association at Central Connecticut State University.

Established in 1980, the Vernon Chorale offers residents of Vernon and the greater Tri-Town area an opportunity to participate in a community chorus that prepares and performs a wide variety of choral music. In 2002, the chorale became officially incorporated, and is now a not-for-profit organization with bylaws, a mission statement, and a Board of Directors.

The Vernon Chorale's principal mission is to provide a forum for members to learn and refine choral singing skills and to educate audiences through the presentation of concerts of choral music, sacred and secular.

West Hartford Women's Chorale

Dr. Ethan Nash, Music Director
Barbara Robbins, accompanist

The West Hartford Women's Chorale (WHWC) is an ensemble of female singers who perform classical, jazz and popular choral music.

Its mission is to provide a fun, challenging opportunity for artistic growth regardless of prior vocal music training or experience for all women who share the love of singing. WHWC seeks to provide continuing vocal music education in our community through performances and collaborations with other musical organizations.

Founded in 2004, the WHWC is led by co-presidents Karen Bachman and Sheila Nussbaum, and a board who assist a professional music director.

Membership for one year in the Chorale begins with open rehearsals held in the first half of September. For 2011-2012 Sept.13 and Sept. 20 are open rehearsals at Bristow Middle School, 34 Highland St. West Hartford, CT.

WHWC performs in winter and spring concerts each year. The chorale also books performances for the community including the Wadsworth Atheneum's Festival of Trees in December and Celebrate! West Hartford in June.

A smaller ensemble, Camerata, was begun in fall of 2008 and is a smaller, auditioned choir meant to complement the performances of the chorale by presenting music better suited to smaller vocal groups. Membership in WHWC is a requirement for all voices in Camerata.
