Connecticut Chamber Choir concludes its 35th season with Dancing in the Light. Featuring works by contemporary composers Robert S. Cohen, Matthew Harris, Cecil Effinger and Morten Lauridsen, and 19th-century composer Josef Rheinberger, the concert evokes light in the spiritual, physical, artistic, and intellectual realms. Cohen’s ethereal Into the Light opens the program with a text based on vocal sounds. Harris’s Shakespeare Songs will be danced by New York City’s contemporary corps de ballet, MixTape Dance. Acclaimed oboist Olav van Hezewijk joins the chorus in Effinger’s Four Pastorales, and performs Rheinberger’s joyful and elegant Rhapsodie with organist Jeffrey Wood. MixTape Dance rejoins CCC for Morten Lauridsen’s luminous Lux Aeterna.

Fairfield County Children's Choir presents "The Miracle of Singing"
Fairfield County Children’s Choir Celebrates Spring Season with Concert
With Spring comes all things promising and hopeful, and the colorful repertoire planned for Fairfield County Children’s Choir’s Spring Concert is no exception. The FCCC will close its 18th season with a doubly exciting concert scheduled for Saturday, May 11th, 7pm at the Regina A. Quick Center of the Arts at Fairfield University. The program, themed “The Miracle of Singing” will feature both a command return performance by guest composer Nick Page along with a stirring commemoration of the Battle of Gettysburg.
The Choir will perform a number of Mr. Page’s compositions, including his most popular piece “Niska Banja” and a world premiere of “Fortune Cookies,” commissioned especially for this concert. To mark the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, the program will also feature a Civil War Suite including “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”, “Tenting Tonight on the Old Campground”, and “The Battle Cry of Freedom”, with the text of the Gettysburg Address woven throughout the Suite.
The evening’s special guest for the evening, Nick Page, is a gifted song leader and a collector of folk tunes from around the world. A composer, author and long-time friend of FCCC, Nick is dedicated to teaching people of all ages that they are capable of great miracles through the simple yet powerful act of singing. Nick’s boundless joy and gift of awakening song never fails to touch hearts with both wonder and awe. The FCCC would like to thank its season sponsor, The Fairfield School of Music, for making this event possible.
Tickets to the FCCC Spring Concert are $15 and $20 and will be sold at the Quick Center Box Office the day of the performance. For information, call 203-414-4292.
