We reprise our annual tradition of presenting George Friderich Handel’s Messiah with orchestra and soloists from within CONCORA, on both sides of the river! Come join us for a sprightly performance using a stellar chamber choir and orchestra as we kick off the holiday season together.

Cappella Cantorum Winter Concert 2023

Celebrate the holidays with us! The Cappella Cantorum Masterworks Chorus will perform "Magnificat" (composed by John Rutter) and "The Many Moods of Christmas" (arranged by Robert Shaw and Robert Russell Bennett) at its Winter Concert, with professional orchestra and both professional and chorus-member soloists, under the direction of Music Director Simon Holt.

Snowfall: A Wintery Afternoon

Our annual Winter Concert.

Join us for some seasonal pieces which include:

A selection from The Messiah by GF Handel, Christmas in 5/4 Time, a selection of John Rutter songs: What Sweeter Music, Cradle Song, A Gaelic Blessing and Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind. Additional songs as Snowfall arranged by Roger Emerson, Winter Wind by Douglas Wagner and an all-time favorite Carol of The Bells by Peter J Wilhousky. We also invite everyone to sing along with some additional selected holiday music.

Greater New Haven Community Chorus

A Celebration of Music by African American Women

Our December concert is a celebration of choral music by African American women, featuring Margaret Bonds's "The Ballad of the Brown King," which was a collaboration with Langston Hughes. The piece imagines the story of Balthazar, one of the three Magi, and was dedicated to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The chorus will also perform seasonal works by Florence Price, Zanaida Robles, Judith Baity, and Rosephanye Powell. Guest artists Jillian Tate (soprano) and Miles Wilson-Toliver (baritone) will perform solos in "The Ballad," as well as additional art songs by Margaret Bonds and Florence Price. Dr. Robert Steptoe, Yale Professor of African American Studies Emeritus, will read selections of seasonal poetry.

Harmonizing Holidays

Mx Hospital Vocal Chords Annual Holiday Concert

Mark your calendars! ‘HARMONIZING HOLIDAYS” will be presented by The Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords (MHVC) on Sunday, December 10th, at 2:00pm. This holiday spectacular will be held at Portland High School, 95 High St., Portland.
Join us for a festive afternoon of music as our 90 voice chorus and 10 piece orchestra proudly perform a variety of holiday favorites to kick off this joyous season. Members hail from thirty towns in Connecticut and from all walks of life.
Samuel Tucker, our Music Director, has arranged a beautiful program that highlights the wide ranging talents of this chorus. The voices are rich in satiny harmony. Pieces played by our accompanist, Alan Dougherty, will display warmth and wonder as we include Irish and French carols, classical, swing, gospel, ballads, and, of course, the traditional pieces that you all love so well.
Proceeds from the concert are returned to the community in the form of scholarships presented to graduating Middlesex Community high school seniors in the spring pursuing a career in music or nursing. Thus far, we have awarded $80,500. We are most grateful to Middlesex Health and to you, our loyal followers for your continued support.

Cappella Cantorum

Handel's Messiah Sing or Listen at the Kate

Join us for this beloved holiday tradition!

Cappella Cantorum will again host its Annual Handel's Messiah Sing or Listen at the Kate in Old Saybrook, under the direction of Music Director Simon Holt.

Come and sing the Messiah with hundreds of other talented local voices, or just sit in the back and listen. Either way, it's an incredibly moving experience.

Singers should arrive and be seated by voice part before 1:30pm for a short rehearsal/warm-up; the performance will begin at 2:00pm. Bring your own score if you have one, or scores will be available on loan for a $10 deposit.

Hartford Chorale

Messiah & Magnificat

Hartford Chorale presents Messiah and Magnificat on December 20, 2023, at 7:30 pm at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford, CT.

Hartford Chorale is thrilled to offer this concert free to the public, in part thanks to the generous donation of our presenting sponsor, The Hartford Insurance Group.

For the first time since 2017, Hartford Chorale sings Handel’s Messiah (part 1) in Hartford! This beloved work has long been a staple of our repertoire, and we are thrilled to present the “Christmas” portion, along with Bach’s masterful Magnificat in D. Featuring an amazing quartet of soloists, this concert will also include an audience carol sing with the orchestra!
