CONCORA: Connecticut Choral Artists

ESMAIL & BACH

This Love Between Us

Juilliard- and Yale-educated composer Reena Esmail was commissioned by the Yale Institute of Sacred Music in 2016 to compose a companion work to J.S Bach’s Magnificat, using the same the orchestration—but with the addition of Indian instruments. That work, This Love Beetween Us, uses texts from the seven major religious traditions of India to explore themes of unity and brotherhood. She weaves together musical strands from both Indian and western classical styles, employing not only the sitar and tabla, but also using scales and melodic patterns from the rich Indian classical tradition. CONCORA presents this important new work alongside Bach’s Magnificat, as intended in the original commission.

Venue: 8 p.m.
Mechanics Hall
Worcester, MA

Tickets: Adults: $39-$59
Student: $17.50
Youth (18 and Under): $7.50
